We have a whole heap of things we can offer children and we are happy to support children from 0 to 18 – although by that age they are usually wanting to get into the Young Adults activities!
Our role with children is also to support parents and relatives as well as others involved in their lives, so we are very keen to help parents access information and support from lots of places including support groups, internet sites, attending training and conferences as well as any other resources that we find from time to time.
We work closely with the local schools to make sure we are using the same techniques as the school and parents when it comes to supporting the young person. So: rewards, positive behaviour prompts, food rules and activities are all developed with the child’
s whole world in the picture.
We work 1-1 with the children as well as having some great group activities where we sometimes have more helpers than kids! We have Junior Group activities after school and during holidays and when we do sleep-overs (other people call it respite) we work out a special plan with the child and the family.
We are always planning fun stuff – so join in with your ideas. It is our job to make the magic happen!
